Notes & Combos

Hello everyone, it's your favorite Altergeist player here, CrimsonReaper5. First and foremost, I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on April 5th. My 28th was awesome. I also feel like I'm the last remaining Altergeist player here, but don't worry, I'm doing what I can to keep Altergeists alive and kicking even though it's really hard to get consistent wins with how powercrept Altergeists have gotten over time. That being said, I'll delve into my card choices and how the climb to KC CUP MAX felt.

For my decklist, you will notice that I cut Meluseek down to x2. The reason for this is because I wanted better hand quality rather than Multifaker consistency. Ideally, I want to see more backrow in my hand than Altergeist names and opening too many names and not enough backrow was a huge setback for me. As a result, I also bumped up the decklist to an 8 and 14 build, going for 8 names and 14 traps. This allowed me better consistency at opening up more traps in addition to a way to grab Multifaker. I also cut Pookuery out of the deck for the same reason. Pookuery is fun, but I felt like I didn't really need it in most games I did. Controlling the game with Hexstia negates, a ton of backrow, and Silquitous bouncing was fine for the most part. Pookuery was just extra gas that I wasn't really needing.

As for matchups, post banlist HERO is actually fun if they don't hard draw into everything. Just force out Super Polymerization, answer Rainbow Neos, and you win. Simple. For the elephant in the room, Resonator, just scoop if they go first with full combo. They end on too many interruptions for Altergeists to feasibly break through.

I also want to talk about the new Skill. Honestly, I felt like this new skill would be bad, but it was actually quite good. Shuffling a Silquitous brick back into the deck for free removal into Multifaker combo was great at breaking boards early or forcing out backrow. Don't sleep on Terrors of the Overroot before you commit anything to the board.

In the end, the climb was hard, Altergeists aren't a great deck anymore, and if you want a slow control deck just play Tindangle or Subterror or something. My unconditional love for my wife Ghost Gal keeps me motivated on this deck though. Hopefully soon we get Altergeist Protocol and my favorite card, Altergeist Malwisp. We are long past the point where Altergeist Protocol is deemed too powerful to be added. YouTube video coming soon for my games to max!
