Notes & Combos

Oh my God I love Raye!

Sky Striker is pretty good in Duel Links, but make no mistake: if you're looking for an easy and stressless climb, this probably isn't the best choice. The inability to choose whether to go first or second make some of your cards completely dead when "winning" the coinflip, and the lower starting Life Points make it easier for the opponents to OTK you even through Raye's effect. A lot of times you'll be tempted to set-up double Engage for turn 3, but it's almost always better to search for Widow Anchor or Eagle Booster in order to have a chance to reach turn 3 in the first place.

Obviously the lack of MP2 is also a problem, however the deck still performs quite decently on turn 2/3 and it's able to break many boards while outvaluing most other decks, so I think that it's definitely a deck worth learning.

The decklist is rather standard. I used to run 2 copies of Mind Control and 1 copy of Ice Dragon's Prison, but I decided to swap them for Into the Void: it helps meeting the requirement of 3 spells in the GY, which is harder here but very important nonetheless (otherwise most of your spells have very low value) and now we finally have the option to trigger the effect to discard your whole hand before searching with Shizuku.

For the Extra Deck, Cerberus and Borreload never came up, so I might try swapping them for the Utopia the Lightning package moving forward.

Here are some classic Sky Striker interactions to know about:

  • use Area Zero to target Raye and chain Raye's effect to get a free excavate. You can do the same with Multirole and make all your spells unrespondable;
  • when controlling Shizuku and Multirole, search a quickplay spell in the End Phase with Shizuku, then immediately activate it and use Multirole to set it on the field so that it's ready to be used in the opponent's turn;
  • in the mirror match, you can chain your own Widow Anchor to the opponent's one targeting your Link monster to prevent them from stealing it. Similarly, try to go into the Links by using Raye's effect whenever possible to avoid giving the opponent a free Kagari with Shark Cannon;
  • if you control Multirole, you cam use Shizuku to search a spell even if there already is another copy in your GY, by setting it with Multirole before getting the search;
  • Eagle Booster can be used to make an opponent's monster unaffected by a fusion spell (e.g. Neos or BEWD), potentially fizzling its effect.

First two matches are with the Mind Control decklist. You might see some genuinely bad plays, mostly due to the fact that I only discovered that there was a new option to manually choose the chain link activation order of trigger effects after I hit KoG.
